Q. I don't want to look too 'young' or silly at my upcoming wedding. But I don't want to look so plain. What if I don't like the hair or makeup during my trial? Can I request something different?
Tamara, 40, Nachlaot
A. Of course! Together we are creating a look that makes you feel and look your best. And if you are unhappy, this will be reflected in the photographs. We're a team, Tamara, and a trial is supposed to take a long time! Most of my work comes from 'word-of-mouth- and a happy kallah is my best advertisement.
Q. I just made aliyah and brought my favorite shampoos/conditioners from the states. But my hair just looks dull and awful! How often should I be shampooing and conditioning?
Margot, Beit Shemesh
A. How often you should condition your hair depends upon the texture of your hair and also what chemical process has been introduced (perming/straightening/color). If your hair is natural or has little to no chemical processing, then you can wash your hair as often as you like, but you must make sure that you use a shampoo and conditioner that has a lot of moisture. When chemicals are introduced, I suggest washing your hair once a week also with moisture rich shampoo and conditioners.
Regarding your favorite products: the water in Israel is quite 'hard' with a high concentration of minerals. You will notice that American soaps, shampoos, and toothpastes do not create serious lathers. Don't be a snob! Our local products are quite good and have been formulated for compatibility with the water here. Competitively priced, the good companies that line the shelves of your pharmacy and supermarket will help you get your shine back!
Q. I'm scheduled to attend a very formal event in January. My dress is black and silver and I'm planning on making my eyes very smoky with grey shadow/pink highlights. I'm considering wearing a dark lipstick with puce undertones. What do you think?
Ahuvah, age 29, Ein Kerem
A. I always prefer to have 'one' dramatic event going on. Dark lipstick will divert attention from your beautiful, smoking eyes. Keep the lips light with a creamy, neutral tone.
